2000 f-150 tonneau cover

Postby jdislandlock » 4 Dec 2008 12:53

i have a customer with a 2000 harley davidson edition f-150 with a tonneau
cover.
The lock in the back is all seized and its shit. he needs a new one
anyone had any experience taking the lock out?? it looks like a trunk lock
for anyone who does not know, me and my journeyman could not figure out
how to get it out without taking the whole tonneau cover off.
Anyone ever had this problem with any customers and did you have to take the whole cover apart or is there another way to get the lock out.
Any diagrams or any such info would help.

Thanks, Jeremy

hey, ya i used to work at a place where we installed them, harly davidson edition nice nice haha. You should be able to contact the dealer, of a local cover dealer and they should be able hook you up with a new lock and handle assembley. It also depeds on weather or not you can get the lid open or not,or if its locked down and the lock is seized up in the closed position. but in order to get the lock out the lid has to be open. But like i said if its open it should be as easy as removing a couple of screws the hold the latch bars down and two or three retaining screws/bolts. before you buy a new lock check and see if the latch are properly aligned with the "studs" on the frame of the cover. I can give you a little more and better clarrification if you can tell me the model of the cover.

see thats the problem we can not figure out how to get it out.
the tonneau cover is unlocked but we can not actually get
the lock out. we played around with it for like 45 minutes and nothing. so we think we have to take the whole cover apart

jdislandlock,

You wouldnt happen to know what key blank that tonneau cover takes off hand do you? Any help on that would be appreciated.

That's what I figured. We have one to do sometime but it's a double sided key and I have yet to find a blank or a brand of tonneau cover it is.

Sorry to intrude on your conversation but do you know where to get a replacement lock once you take out the actual lock in the tonneau cover? Mine got punched out and I am having a hard time finding a replacement lock.

I have worked on these before. They really are not made to be taken apart. There should be a ring with teeth angled up holding the whole thing together, theres no way to get it off without destroying it and I was not able to find a replacement anywhere, or a suitable substitute. Save yourself alot of time and just replace the entire handle.
