I randomly and extremely luckily picked my college dorm lock. Its a best brand lock with i believe 7 pins ( I cant even pick a 5 pin lock). I did so by randomly raking it. So after unlocking it, the cylinder is stuck in the unlocked position so it is upside down. Now the cylinder won't turn at all and the key won't even fit in the cylinder anymore.
What happened and what did I do? More importantly, how do I fix it lol?
Thanks guys
sigh.. this is why we tell people not to pick locks that are in use and not to pick locks that dont belong to them. I even have a thread for these times and I'll be adding your post to it, to serve as future warning to others.
Others will promptly jump on you for doing this, so just know that we all pick locks for fun, not to be sneaky or malicious, and we normally pick locks while holding them in our hand or in a table vise. We dont pick our front doors, we dont go around the office picking locks, and we dont pick friend's apartment doors, dorm rooms, etc.
The other thing that may surprise you is that 'your dorm room door' is not yours to F with. it belongs to the school, and even though you probably paid lots of money for room and board, that lock should never be picked or taken apart because you'll end up loosing your deposit or at the least getting in trouble with your maintenance dept or your campus police or the RA's.
Now, I'm sure you dont want a lecture, but I think you needed it and I'm sure you appreciate it as well.
[edit- sorry squelchtone- but we are not here to help people needing a handout in this case- the information required is easily found on this forum if they wish to take the time to find it... - unlisted]That's it.
Now don't do that again, and welcome to lock picking as a hobby.
