American Lock H10 Series Key Codes?

Postby dapaq2 » 6 Aug 2012 1:19

Does anyone know where I can find a good source that shows a list of all the key codes for the American Lock H10 Series Pad locks? Looking for any helpful information. I am looking for key codes E216 and E507. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Doug

Just pop the plug out and pop a new one in, or file out a key by hand.

That is NOT an option for me. I need to have a new key made by the key code number from a locksmith or someone else who knows how to make new keys from the key code. Thanks for trying.

Stop by this shop in Merrillville, they should be able to help you.
http://www.brandysafe.com/

I take it the padlocks are mounted to something and you need them opened, so bringing the padlocks to the locksmith to pick, take apart, decode, and make keys wont be an option for you either?

Are they your locks? what are they on (railroad equipment, vending machine) does anyone else have the key (past owner, maintenance person, etc)

Thanks!

I am with a railroad museum. The locks are pretty much our now. What the situation is, is that our previous signal inspection contractor company who use to do our monthly inspections on a signalled railroad crossing we have, never removed their locks from our signal boxes when we cancelled the contract between them and us and wont respond back to us. We need to gain access to our signal equipment and want to remove their locks, but we dont want to damage the locks incase they should contact us later and want their locks back, even though these locks are not that expensive, we still dont want to have to pay for replacement locks. So I am trying to locate a replacement key so we can remove them without damage.

My understanding is that a locksmith can cut replacement keys from the key code number right in their shop. If a locksmith can cut the key then going to a local locksmith might be my best bet on getting this situation resolved in a timely manner.

Thanks,

Doug

If going to a local locksmith shop (and dont just call the first locksmith in the phone book, find a real mobile or brick and mortal locksmith who is a member of ALOA) or if going in person to a shop, bring ID, letter head and photos of the locks with you, and bring you and someone else in person or have the locksmith come out and say you need a lock picked, but not drilled, and keys cut by code. Since it is for infrastructure, some locksmiths may be weary because they don't want someone derailing a train by messing with locks, even if your spur is not connected to the main rails in the area.. I'm sure you know what I'm saying.

Or get friendly with the company who owns the locks, and by friendly, I mean have your lawyer write them a letter that they have 30 days to remove the locks, or they will be cut off and your organization will not be responsible for replacing them. Unfortunately, sometimes things like this have to be done.

Another thing to do is get a legit local locksmith to come out, show him the locks, tell him the situation about cancelling the contract, and have him pick the locks off, he wont make you a key, just charge you to pick the locks, then you can leave them unlocked on a shelf and lock your signalling up with your own padlocks. He should be able to come out and pick those locks for under $100 for the drive out and the labor.

good luck with your project,

@dapaq2:

Cutting the locks off would be fine...

The contractor abandoned them on your equipment, if you are that concerned after you cut them off place the parts into a box and put it on a shelf somewhere so if the ever come looking for the locks you can return what is left of them to the contractor...

Any claim for damages of the locks would be offset by the time and labor costs you as the owner of the equipment had to expend to remove the contractor's locks off your equipment...

Having keys made which operate their locks is not something you should do as clearly those keys would open other locks on equipment which you do not own...

Sounds like you have learned a lesson about securing these equipment boxes, if your organization ever contracts this function out again make the contractor use your locks and sign out/in a key to service the equipment with the numbers filed off with language in the agreement that if the key goes missing it is upon the contractor to replace all the locks...
