Vingcard mortise cylinder

Postby tjweaver84 » 31 Jul 2009 8:16

I got a Vingcard mortise cylinder and I was wondering if anyone knows what types of security pins they use. It's the one with seven pins. I'm in the process of making a pick that can maneuver through the wards since I can only reach the second pin with any of my picks. I am charging my camera battery but will try to get picks up of it tommorow if I can figure that out. On another note I am going to talk to the vingcard guys the next time they do maintenance and see i they have any old cylinders they are getting rid of so I may have more in the next month or so.

I doubt anyone will know offhand which security pins are in these, and because they appear to be made for hotel doors you'll need to post pics of the lock so we know you own it. How come you haven't gutted it to have a look anyway?

I got it from work. We use them on the doors at the barracks I work at. Like I said I'll post pictures after I took them. Haven't gutted it because I don't have the key for it since we only have 2 keys for it at work and one of those is in the firefighters box.

Vingcard makes more than just their hotel locks.

Here is the link to some pictures. Could take a while to load though since I just threw this together real quick. http://tjweaver84.tripod.com/locks.html

Ooh, 7 pin... should be fun. :)

No idea what kind of security pins are in these, but if they use them around the barracks I'd assume there are some spools or maybe even serrated pins in there.

Personally, when I come up against a lock I've never seen before, I treat every pin like a security pin and make sure to lift the pins (especially the ones towards the back) as high as I can when pushing them up. When I lift a pin all the way up and it doesn't click, I move to the next one - and if it does seem to set, I always let off on the tension just a tiny bit and keep lifting to see what happens. With a 7 pin cylinder you'll be able to rake it into false set very easily to get you started, so try that. I usually scrub over the pins while using light, pulsating tension until I get a nice big rotation then SPP from there. It'll take you a while to figure it out, but you'll definately get it. You may not be able to get your hands on the key, but if you can get a quick look at it and take a mental note of the bitting it'll help you out immensely. It's kinda cheating, but do it if you really need to.

Best of luck!

Generally, the VingCard and TrioVing locks contain these sorts of security pins:

looks like a common pin tumbler,
the name vingCARD, makes me think of the card lock described in LSS+ or in one of Han Feys articles.
that was a card with a lot of holes in it, apparently a recombinating lock for quick changes in a hotel.

but apparently its the name of the company so its on all their locks.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
