Lock Picking a Combination Lock

When picking a combination lock, instead of going for the "formula" method and getting the combination, I try to stick a bobby pin into a tiny opening beside where the shackle goes, and push the springbolt back to slide the shackle out. The problem with this method, is that the bobby pin only works when there is a fairly large opening (at least for a bobby pin) to go inside. I tried filing down the bobby pin, but then it becomes very fragile and breaks on attempt. Anyone have any suggestions on a replacement for the bobing pin?

I agree try some real shims. they will do the job. they are very thin and also can bend and brake but they do work.

Use metal from aluminium cans, the metal part of a floppy disk, or measuring tape.

Sorry for acting responsibly but when a first post asks how to get in to what he describes as a lock the same found on a school locker. and does described specifics of how he tried to open a certain lock alarm bells start ringing. plus he DID NOT ask about shims that was the first response to it.

feel free to describe all the bypass techniques you want, i know of 3 for the master combination lock (assuming thats what hes on about or some variant). but ide prefer to find out a few more details before i start giving out info like that. especially on a first post.

feel free to flame away but look through some of the locked threads and most has the same kind of responses in them.

JankNco: Since you brought it up, what are the 3 ways to bypass a master combination lock? I know about shims and I've already done the bypass where you find the last # and go from there, but I've never heard of the other way. It's a Master combination lock. I think it's a 1500, but it doesn't have any numbers on it (I've already thrown away the package). I bought it a few days ago for the sole purpose of trying to open it without the combo. It's my lock and it's not on anything. I'm just curious.

the older padlocks can be be opened the same as a safe as far as i ve read (But easier) . pulling on the shackle and feeling for gates, newer models are better build and apparently have false gates in them so it would only work on an old model.

shims are the easiest way but i dont like giving out bypasses to new users, but these have already been mentioned and the manipulation method doesn't work on most locks these days

No problem. I understand. I had to go buy a new lock because I didn't have any older combination locks just lying around. Thanks anyway.

I heared some one say something about being able to open them by finding th last # and so on....I have never done this but would like to ... can any one help/
