Mushroom pins!!!!

Postby panalman » 31 Oct 2005 14:41

Hi,
This subject has been covered so many times on this site. Its always best to do a search before posting as 9 times out of 10 you can be sure the information is on here somewhere.

Security pins or mushroom pins are always a little tricky at first but with lots of practise you will master them just keep trying and adjust your tension as well as trying different picks will give you a better chance.

Good luck and let us know when you have it cracked.
There is always a solution to a problem and a way in without destruction !!!!!

4 hours

I use very light tension, and a hook pick. Takes some time to understand fully how this pin reacts when picked, so try and imagine what the pins are likely to be doing in the lock *mental picture* once you know which are the mushroom pins then lift the pins high with your pick, and 'bump' your tension wrench to try and get the pins to properly set. Once the mushroom pins are set, then just pick the remaining pins as normal.

(by 'bumping' a tension wrench I mean to change the amount of tension gently, almost a pulsing changing of tension - it doesn't have to be much, but I find it helpfull because the varying tension sets the security pins, just make sure you don't let too much tension, or you may unset some pins)

that's all I can think of - hope this helps :)

well if you place your pick below the pin and create an upwards force, this causes the pins to move upwards in a verticle manner, and is commonly known as lifting pins. same deal with Euro type locks, except around the other way, the pins move downwards.
