While I wait...for my first lessons to arrive I bought a double sided deadbolt (two lock for the price of one).
With my homemade tools I haven't had much luck...
So I took all but two of the pins out and I did it! I realize that it may not be much to you experts but for this neophyte It was pretty exciting!

That's a good way to go. As it becomes easier, start adding more pins, until all the stacks are full. Then try mixing up the order of the pins.

i think the site should invest in personal user pages- like a place where we can all blog our picking, instead of blogging it here and then eventually getting it locked or moved without our knowing. then we could all post pics in a gallery on our page, videos, etc. like if anyone has been to www.deviantart.com then they know what i mean. i think that would be cool- of course im all in favor of it being FREE. but still- i think it would be good- we wouldnt have to use photobucket, etc to store pics/vids.
just a thought.....
congrats on first pick!

congrats and have fun, I found this method to be the best for a learning curve that is fairly consistant to occur. I had never really used half diamonds until trying this method out. Now I carry a half-diamond and a hook, everywhere I go.

Smooth action, there's nothing like it when things just fall into place.
I also carry a half diamond where ever i go, it also happend to be with that pick that i picked my first lock with, can't remember the brand name but it was an outside front door lock...i was thrilled of the rush and from there on i was hooked.

Ahhh yes my first time was also exciting! I was a little nercious, I hadn't really done it before, only read about it and looked at pictures! But I just knew I would like it and be good at it too! After the first time I just couldn't stop doing it! It's so thrilling, so satisfying... wait a minute, what were we talking about again?
seriously, it just keeps getting better! Welcome to LP101!

That's a great idea!
We could post pics of tools, lockboards, picked locks, locks and everything else.
It would require a lot of storage space, which would cost a lot for LP101, which is less than ideal....
maybe we all could just decide on a certain blogspot and all use it?
That way LP101 wouldn't have to pay up.
Lovin the idea

I have yet to pick a 4 pin lock, but the first time I picked a lot (2 pin, just like you) it was very exciting and it felt great.

I remember picking 3 pins of my ripped apart Quikset practice lock and thinking "How in the HELL am I going to pick 5 pins if this is taking me 20 minutes!?" Now, looking back after picking countless doors of mine in seconds, tons of padlocks, and even getting into and succeeding at cracking combination padlocks with multiple methods (one involving an empty beer can, and other involving actual numerical methods), am amazed at my progress. I strive to look for locks to provide me a challenge now. The local hardware store doesnt provide anything beyond a the usual Crapset and Slage locks so I might try Melin's Locksmith -a local locksmith where I picture Melin as a 4 foot Dwarf with a horned helmet, braided red beard, and a hand held axe, WoW style. Melin, it just fits..- for a higher grade lock to play with.
