okay, im not sure if this has ever come up before but i thought it would be easy to explain (and good to contribute something as a n00b)

You know those bicycle chains with the combination locks on them? ever tried to impress your friends and crack the code but failed? well, those are some of the easiest locks to crack ever.

NO TOOLS NEEDED :!:

okay, you are going to have to get the numbers one ny one. there are usually only 3 pins in them which means that you need 2 (yes i said two!) numbers.
How to do it:

on both sides of the lock (on the chain) you need to get a good grip with your small and ring finger (at least). now you should have your middle finger and and index free to hold the lock still.

set the combination to 111
now turn the first number (211) now pull on the chain in opposite directions (with your pinky and ring fingers) as if the right combination were entered.
you're going to have to get used to this next part PRACTICE!

now on the number (you're still pulling both sides apart) you changed to two jiggle that little dial thing side to side, if its tight, stop pulling and move onto 3.
repeat.

once you notice a number that (when the chain is pulled) and the dial is jiggled, feels looser (is that a word???) keep that number! you've found the first number!!!

move onto the second dial and repeat.
once you feel that you have the second combination number keep it.

now pull the chains apart again and from 1, spin the last dial until the lock pops open!

easy!

p.s. ( how do i get an image as my sig!?!?! )

There are way easier ways of doing that. They are posted around here. Thanks for trying to be informative, but save it until someone asks for it. Unless you have a real gem to offer. For instance if you could bypass a medeco biaxial in less than 1 minute, then we would all want to hear about it. However bicycle locks are pretty common knowledge, and we'd all be happy to answer questions about them, but if the questions don't come up we figure people are reading what they need to know about them in books, or texts, or by using the search button here.

Ok tell me how to open a medeco in a minute nondestructively, without a key.
I wasn't trying to be Harsh, but he's really wasting his breath. A newb will come here, and ask the question in another month without looking at this post, and he'll just have to repeat himself. There are easier way of doing this than his example though.

a medeco mortice cylinder can be bypassed through the keyhole rather easily.

a rim cylinder on the other hand is a different story.

I would guess you mean when it's fitted to an Adams Rite mechanism? :)

I do recall listening to an audio in lss+ that discussed bypassing a medeco mortice using piano wire. I think that had to do with the lock being improperly installed though. Its been a while. I'll dig it out today, and listen to it again.

well that would be nice if we were invited to participate in the advanced forums. But I'm not going to suggest relaxing your rules. It just gets difficult to keep posting on boring topics, so that one might be able to gain access to the advanced forums after the "qualifying" period.

Feel privilaged.

Take a look at my posts over time, and you'll find so much censorship, you have to know the filter system to understand what I am saying.

I have this overwhelming tendency to write what I am thinking, and since I have a tendency to think the way I talk it can be funny.

About the only time I generally make a real overwhelming effort to censor myself is when I am writing for something that will be in print on paper. Then its just something I do.

At any rate, Circus did a decent job, and I can horribly understand the frustration of many other users. There is only so much ground to cover.

Romstar

Its possible I have gotten better over the years, but it still happens especially when I am in "rant" mode.
