I'm new to this site, and was looking through all the topics in this section(Pick-Fu...) that looked like they might have a link to another site that would have a video on how to make lock picks. I found a link to a video, I think pyro1234321 made it, but unfortunatly it didn't work.
Here is a link to the topic that contains the link: viewtopic.php?t=1165
I was wondering if there are any other sites that would have video on making them, or if pyro's video was still availible for download and where?
Also i have some mesurements on how to make them from hacksaw blades, but they dont tell the sizes of the different ends on the picks(1/2 dimond, hook, rake, ect...). Whats a good size for the diomond(or a few) and the hook(or a few for this as well)?
Thanks for any replies.

The video is actually hosted here. locked/Making_Picks_1.wmv
I just took my micrometer to my picks for you, heh. I even did my own custom picks.
Hook 0.1085 inch rise , 0.0634 wide at the tip. I ground this by hand, so no real emphasis on size, just a general measurement
Half diamont 0.104 inches tall. 0.125 inches where the triangle meets the taper.
Just play around with something in these general areas. I would suggest making hooks at first, as they are easier to make.

Thanks for the help!
That was a good video, good job pyro1234321.
The only thing I would have like to see is how you make a half dimond.
And is there any attachment for dremmel rotory tools or drills that can do all the grinding , I don't have a table grinder.
Video here (as well as in the post above): locked/Making_Picks_1.wmv
To save it to computer: right click your mouse and click
"Save Link Target As" then save it where ever you want.
For anyone who wants to download this video and play it on Windows Media Player:
When saving this file you Have to change, Making_Picks_1.wmv (default name it saves as)
To: Making_Picks_1.mpg <-- MPG, Not WMV
I could not play this moive on W.M.P. until i changed this.
Thanks agian.

i_want_to_pick,
the movie is 100% .WMV format, it must be some file association on your machine, regardless....
diamonds are so easy to make, that i never included them in the movie(plus i rarely use them). like Chucklz said, just play around with the dimensions he gave. don't expect to whip out a master set first try, but you will improve with every pick you make. as far as dremel attachments, there are none i know of that can match the abrasive power of a good bench grinder, plus a dremel is really not suited for mass material removal (i.e. grind away large sections of steel) and bits can be pricey. the only dremel-only option is to use cut-off wheels to cut the rough shape out (use straight lines, no curves at this stage) and then finish up with a small abrasive wheel/hand file. when using cut-off wheels like this (to cut out shapes) they have a tendancy to grab and shatter sometimes, so protect your eyes and don't force the tool to much and keep the steel cool. expect to use up 1 heavy-duty disk for every 1-2 picks if you are cutting them out this way. If you are near a crappy tire (aka. Canadian Tire, a hardware store for those who don't know), then get a 20 pack of disks and a 10 pack of no-name carbon steel hacksaw blades (grey, made in china). enough to do 30-60 picks for $12CDN, can't beat that. since making the movie, there are some updates to how to make tension/torque tools from these specific hacksaw blades, only heat them enough to bend them (not red-hot) then cool them. however there are many other materials more suitable for wrenches, just do a search. it also wouldn't hurt to get a cheapy practice lock as well.
good luck, let us know how they turn out.

Thanks for the info on the dremmel blades, and update about the tension tools.
The Error message i got was an "Id Error" I think , I just posted that above for anyone who might have the same problem as me.
Also i've heard about useing allen keys for torsion tools, do these work well, and what size of allen should use(metric allen's)? I plan on tappering it so it can be used for multiple locks.

Today I picked my first lock, it was my bike lock. It was great to have picked it, but im definatly Not impressed with the lock!
My first try ever using picks and it was unlocked in less then a minute and a half. It wasnt much skill either, though I felt for the pins a-bit. I just popped the pick and tension tool in and wiggled the pick mainly, a hook pick too not a snake.
I was hopeing for a bigger challenge, not because I wanted my first pick to be harder but the fact that my bike cost $2000cnd. Time for a New lock.
I ended up grinding an allen for the tension tool(4mm I think), it worked well but I need to grind a smaller one, the one I used got in the way of picking.

Ok, I've tried and tried to download the Making Picks video from pyro1234321 to no avail. I've searched this site for Making_Picks_1.wmv and found 17 results. After reading through all of these, and trying various differant links to the video, and all of them have failed me. I've even searched Google and the Gnutella network with no more luck.
The primary link I found, viewtopic.php?t=1165, takes me to a ProStream Solutions website and gives me a 404 error. I've tried this at various times of the day (around 2 PM and 2 AM -8 GMT).
I am very interested in viewing this video, as from what I have read it is great.
Any help is appreciated.
