A normal hook will work with mushroom pins, just takes practice and a light touch.

This probably says it works well with mushroom pins because it moves the pins in a smooth motion, but I am only guessing.

I don't have an answer for your question but I can give some contribution about "Bogota" style picks.

I made some "Bogota" after having downloaded the Tutorial from Locksports.

They appear to work wery well raking cheap padlocks with no big pin height differencies but so far I couldn't get any lock with security pins open. I tried to use them with reverse raking too with the same results.

The problem is that as soon as I increase the pressure with the tension wrench the pick binds but I have the same problem with other shape rake picks, so probably my raking technique is someway wrong.

Anyway thanks to Raimundo.

The spacing between the peaks on a Bogota rake makes me think that when raked, it acts almost like a pick gun; snapping the pins upwards. Just my 2.

I still find raking security pins hard going and tend to pick them a whole lot faster than raking them.

Reverse raking does work but nothings seems as good as the trusty half diamond for me :)

using a bogota rake on mushrooms

Postby raimundo » 24 Apr 2004 9:38

the trick is light intermittent tension. flips the pins up and they jump off the peaks into the valleys, its a light fast nervous like you had to much coffee motion. These rakes work principally because of the smooth sanding of the picks and rounding off of the edges, reduces the friction. the difference between running on grass and running in two feet of water.
take a cylinder apart, and put the rake in the core, watch the bottom pins dance and flirt around the shear line. keep tension from binding this action and it will work.
