FB Lesson 1-5 changes and link

This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

FB Lesson 1-5 changes and link

Postby desert_gold_hound » 8 May 2007 16:53

I am including the following link as not to reinvent the wheel.

viewtopic.php?t=12723&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=foley+belsaw&start=0

OK now I have done lesson's 1-5 while at work and it only took me about 2 hours (with interruptions)

all quotes are from jimb off the link above.

Lesson 1 – The Key Blank Catalog
Objective: To acquaint you with the key blank catalog and the basic kinds of keys.
Supplies: Key blank catalog and 2 work cards.
Returned work: Both work cards.

Very easy nothing has changed. Everything was included that was needed.

Lesson 2 – Key Identification
Objective: To learn the names of the parts for different keys and how to match keys.
Supplies: 6 Cylinder key blanks, 6 flat key blanks and 6 key rings.
Returned work: All key blanks matched on key rings.

This one was way to easy everything included that was needed.

You no longer send the keys/rings back instead you send in a work card.

Lesson 3 – How To Duplicate Flat Keys
Objective: To Learn the hand filing method of duplicating flat steel keys.
Supplies: Work card.
Returned work: Work card.

Lesson 4 – How To Duplicate Cylinder & Bit Keys
Objective: To learn the hand filing method of duplicating cylinder and bit keys.
Supplies: Work card.
Returned work: Work card.

Lesson 5 – Automobile Lock Servicing
Objective: To Learn the basic servicing procedures necessary on auto locks.
Supplies: None.
Returned work: Exam.

Still remains the same. I think it would have been nice to have hands on for some of this work. I would suggest buying files needed and also the locks. I think these lessons are easy, however; might be a little harder if you actually had to do some hands on.

OK Just got off the phone with FB because I wonted to know how many payments it would take to receive my second packet. They stated that I only have to make one of my monthly payments per package. This would end up leaving me 7 payments after I complete the course. I was surprised and called back to confirm this. The second person told me the same thing. I made my next payment and they are shipping my next lessons out tomorrow. I don't know how they would work the key machine but being that its part of a packet I guess they would probably send it. I will let you know as at this rate I will be done in 5 weeks. (Time for shipment). I will keep you all informed on any changes to the course. I will start a new thread per packet and link them all together with links.

I thought the same thing. Some of the lessons will take you longer, like impressioning keys for pin tumbler locks, it takes alot of practice, and "close" don't work.
