Master Combo Locks (Only last Number so Far)

Postby silent » 3 Aug 2004 16:18

I took the lock and started to spin the dial to the left. The I slowly increased the tesnsion on the clasp until it disabled the dial. I have done it repetedly with my eyses closed and the last digit it stops on is the last number -5.

If you have a master combo lock try this please and tell me If you get the same result. And please dont flame me if you think this is coincidental about the last number. :(

Coincidental. On newer (think past 15 years) Master combo locks there are plenty of false notches 11 (i think).

I beleive that one of the notches is a true notch.

I seem to recall a pretty cheesy "how to open a master combination lock" text file floating around in the distant past that started with this very technique.

silent,

No... I think your test is just coincidental. Since there are usually around 12 false gates cut into the last wheel, and one of those gates is the correct one, you may just be hitting the adjacent false gate each time.

If you are reading such a guide... please post a URL to it so we can help you identify the fact from the fiction in it.

Hey Silent,
You're right, that method works for me as well (although it's true you have to add 6, not 5.)
To find the second number you dial the first and repeat the method spinning to the left. I hope myself or someone to post a complete manual sometime along the road.

Cameron,

The general rule in the past has been: You should only post enough information that a stranger at your front door should know. If it 'releases' too many secrets.... moderators will quickly edit it or pull it down.

Just post the manual already or a URL to it. Or at least stop taunting us with it :)

(btw: I don't make the rules here)

Back in highschool my brother figured out these locks, i'm sure there are other ways to do this, but here's how the newer (the little red arrow is indented, not sticking out) master combo locks work:

there are 12 gates, and of course we all know 1 of them is the last number... so put tension on and find the gates, there are two types;

1) A double digit gate: where the dial will turn and hit 2 numbers I.e. stopping so it hits 3 and 4 and just bounces back and forth

2) a middle digit gate: this is where it stops with a digit in the center and bounces between half of one number, over one, and half past that one.
I.e. stops on 3 and a half, crosses 4 and stops again on 4 and a half.

double digit gates... ignore them, they are useless. So find all the middle digit gates and note the whole number they all have, it's different for each lock but there is always a set that ends in the same number... so for one of my locks the middle digit gates are: 8, 18, 28, 38 and 35

Most of you have figured it out by now, the one that breaks the ending in the same digit pattern is your last number, and now you use this chart to find the first and second numbers. Also note that from the list of possible first and second numbers, if your last number is odd, only try odd numbers, as master combo's are always all odd numbers or all even.

Image
The underlined numbers are the last digits, use the colour coding to find your first and second digits, if your last digit was 30 you'd use the 2 blue columns, the first number always being the left column and the second number being the right.

Enjoy, but don't do bad things with this manual... as they are, err... bad.

Hello, i have a combo question lets see if i get some wisdom...
So I have an Ace combo lock and lost the combo(i can post a pic if needed).
I tired to find the last number as explained, however here is what i get...
2, 5-6, 8-9, 12, 15-16, 18-19, 22, 25-26, 28-29, 32, 35-36, 38-39
As you can see the twos repeat, however i don't have a fifth middle number.
I have eigth of the numbers that go back and forth which repeat 5-6, 8-9 throughtout.
So my question is what it the real number if the four 2's are fake and there is no
fifth real number popping out.(I tried many times by the way)
Sorry if i posted this wrong i'm new.
Thank you for any replies.
