Whats a good book to learn from?

I was wondering, does the mit guide have it all, or do you guys know a good book that tells how to pick certain lock brands and good techniques.

THanks

Learn what you can from the MIT guide, realize it doesn't have all the answers, and wait...several guides of different varieties are soon coming out on the market which will be much more accurate in terms of methods and terminology, as well as more comprehensive in content.

That looks like Varjeal's way of saying that I am writing my poor ass off in addition to making picks all the time.

In between all of that, I have to do my normal locksmithing work.

I forgot what sleep was a few months ago.

However, Bill Phillips's "Complete Book Of Locks And Locksmithing" Volume 5 is an excellent book on the subject.

Speaking of books, does anyone know of a online store where I could pick up a copy of The Art of Manipulation? I see mention of it on HPC's website but can't find any stores actually selling it.

Try sending an e-mail to Barrett over at www.lockpicks.com

I think he can special order just about anything from HPC for you.

Hmmm? Hath the collective heads of LP101 got together and are in the process of producing an updated version of the MIT guide??? (Good to see Pinky's name also in green). :P

I'm gonna agree with romstar on "the complete book of locks and locksmithing 5th edition" by Bill Phillips. My dad got it for me when he came back from San Fransisco and it's been really helpful. Not one of those books you read cover to cover though, more of a reference. Hope this is helpful, but not much of my stuff is :D

I just thought that the price might be helpful, it says on the back of the book 29.95 USD.

yes - once again - this has been in the pipeline for a while - since late april I think.

sort of discussed here:

viewtopic.php?t=3914

Authors include myself, Romstar and Pinky - cityspider helped a bit in the beginning Pyro has provided some insight also. alias has volunteered to investigate copyleft issues etc...

Romstar and I also think that it would be a good Idea to release a hard copy and have the proceeds go to some charity or some such worthy cause.

Current version is sitting with romstar.... *nudge nudge* and the release date is always "sometime next weekend" :D

I must say that it's going to be one fantastic free guide, developed by a combination of knowledge from people all over the world. we're getting it proof read by a proffessional copywrite and a techwriter. Diagrams by romstar, some pictures by pyro. a complete section on lever locks (thanks pinky!)....

in short - it's going to outshine the MIT guide in the same way that the mid-day sun outshines a glow worm.

so next weekend - look out.
Oh look! it's 2016!

That sounds awesome. I could use some knowledge on lever locks. It's great how much work and time everyone on this forum is willing to put into helping other lockpickers. Just wanted to say thanx again, it's really helpful :D

I personally hope a section goes in for disk tumblers. The amount of information on wheel packs and combinations isn't much and what is out there is out of date or just plain incorrect.

If you mean the Abus type disc locks, you will have to wait for that stuff.

I didn't include it in the new guide, and neither did anyone else. Yes, it does need to be dealt with, but this thing is getting big.

You and me both at this stage.

I am just trying to get this thing done. Whitehat is gnawing his fingernails in anticipation for my final draft copy.
