Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

There have been questions on security pins, so I thought I would post a few pictures.
This first picture is of a mushroom pin from a Medeco lock.
The next pins are a bottom pin and a driver from a Master lock.
I hope this gives an idea of what you are dealing with. I will try to post more pictures as I come across other types of pin.

And here is a 3D model I did at the weekend:
Left to right...1st is a spool pin. 2nd, a mushroom. 3rd, a serrated pin, and lastly...4th is a sleeved spool pin of unknown origin.
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

Nice work Mick
The last one looks pretty intimidating
Any chance we could animate those to show how they work?
*we- meaning not me, I wouldn't know where to start

I think I have a picture somewhere of what happens when you try to pick a spool pin. I will try to post it.
Basically though, as you are applying tension to the plug, the gap in the security pin gives a false movement making you think you have found the shear line for that chamber.

Let's see here. Something like 28 frames per second. 5 seconds of video. 1000 words per picture... Mick, your work was worth... 140,000 words! Wow, and ppl say I talk a lot!

It's so hard to explain to people how a spool will cause the cylinder to rotate backwards as you lift it. In the video it is easy to see. Great job

Was there supposed to be sound? I didn't hear anything. Meh, it really helps though, nice work on the video.

I recorded myself saying "Click", but it sounded silly (J/K). OK, there's no sound, but it's not really needed anyway and would have just bloated the file size. Some of us are still on 56k...DSL pricing is still ridiculous in areas without healthy competition. cracksman wrote:Hey Mick, any chance we can get more animations?
Plugging away at the weekends (pun intended )
Thanks for the appreciation guys.

Hey mad mick, I was referred to this post from one of mine in Pick Fu. I noticed that you do some 3d animation, and that's just one of my hobbies that I partake in. Sorry for dragging up the old post, but I'm really curious as to how you got the spring to bend like that (I'm a superb amateur). Was it just keyframed?
I currently use Maya 6 for all of my 3d stuff, here's a little example

If you could message me on aim (minionqb), that'd be great. Then I could help with 3d models and such as well.
