Spool Pins VS Electric Pick

Spool Pins VS Electric Pick

Postby RaviuN02 » 30 Jul 2005 1:19

Hi again,
I have gotten the electric pick to a point where I can easily go through a Kwikset and a Defiant (home depot brand) with no problem.

I purchased a Schlage lock today, took it apart (very hard to keep it in tact). And saw that the driver pins were Spool type. I havent seen this before, and needless to say the kwikset and the homedepot didn't have them inside of them.

I looked around and there seemed to be relatively little information on spool drivers (other than they are made to foil vibrational methods) and picking them with electric or clik gun means. Seeing as there isnt really any method to find a false set pin with a gun is there anything that I should do to keep the pins from getting caught on the sides?

I will keep trying, but wanted to ge tthat out there in case anyone had a method. So far everyone has been very helpful. My pick is set at around 3/16 as on user suggested and it has been very successful in taking down locks.

Very light sporadic tension. Lightly tensing the wrench every so often until the lock opens.

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

There simple, Use you electric pick gunt o get the false set, then set it downa nd use a hook and gently give ont he tension and find the security pins and push them to shear and pop its open. I have a brinks with two spools. DOnt be intimidated by security pins. There a meaning of detering picking when actually they tell you you set eveything but a few security pins. So find um and lift um up and pop. Or you might get lucky and pop it with just the pick gun i have dont it, but switching to manual will deff. work well.

Bounce the tension wrench as you do it... the same process applies when raking spool pins. :)
