I think these devices lack the force/strength/momentum (whatever the physically correct term is).

If you attach the striking needle to the device and let it hammer on the tip of your fingernail, what happens? Will the needle stop? Will the nail stop movement altogether? Does it hurt?

I have only seen the Southord pickgun live, but I can attest that hammering on your fingernail for a second or two is really uncomfortable...

You're right now that I think about it. Not enough force. If the needle of a manufactured one hurts, well, then I better scrap the hair trimmer idea. Might go for the screwdriver thing though.
