Lots of people here seem to be really proud of their homemade picks, which is cool. Personally, i just use my picks from southord and i am quite happy with them. I would eventually like to try making my own picks, but am currently busy with other projects. My question is wether most people are happy just using store bought picks, or they really prefer a homemade.

Guess it depends on the skill and patience involved in making home brews. I've made my own set, they're functional and I'm sure will last a while like my previous picks i made when starting out. However, I don't really have a lot of time and patience to make them perfect by sanding them/making them smooth and shiny etc. I'll just end up buying a set in a few months.

I have been buying both, but I have modified the wrenches. I think I will try to make my next batch of wrenches. Assuming I break or lose these. I do not think I will try my hand at making pics, I have very little metal working skills.

Right now i'm using both Homemade picks and Wrenches
I don't really have a lot of time and patience to make them perfect by sanding them/making them smooth and shiny etc
i find this sometimes too and what i do normaly when making a new pick, i'll rough it out one night then the next i'll finish it, it's rare that i sit and make a pick start to finish in one night, but sometimes i do

reasons to make picks
1 low cost, or virtually free, and replaceable.
2 control of size and design. you can make them fit the job.
3 bigbrother wont be able to know you have them. saves explaining
4 you actually can make better picks than they sell.

I agree with what you say raimundo, however most people dont have the skills to make picks like yours(which everybody on this site obviosly loves) So unless you are able to craft some really nice stuff like yours, maybee it should be left to the pros. By the way, i would consider your picks to be store bought, because of consistency and incredibley high quality, as opposed to some of the hack jobs iv'e seen on this site.

As a relative newbie I started both learning to pick and make tools at the same time, as time carries on I realise I am as into toolmaking as I am lockpicking so I can't forsee that I'll start buying pro picks.

I use store manufactured picks & wrenches due to the fact there are not enough hours in the day. I make adjustments here and there to both pick & wrench dependant on lock, the sets i prefer are falle & hpc.
i find the hpc ball end pick a great tool for auto work.
