I suppose I'm set in my ways, but of the non-hook/diamond picks that come in any of the sets, I'd probably only use 1 or 2 of them ever, and very rarely.
Also, for the cost of buying a set, I think it would be worth considering a cheap dremel tool (think the $12 harbor freight special) and a stack of hacksaw blades. Making your own isn't that hard, and you'd pick up some useful skills. Not to mention you could always use the dremel to cut bolts on your car or polish your silverware if you change interests.
