Southord Tubular Locks Tension Rod...Help!

Postby Exrave » 28 Apr 2009 1:11

Hey guys,

Ive had the 7 and 8 pin tubular lock picks for a couple of months now and i kinda noticed that the tension rod has starting to become loose. What Ive done was I tried to hammer it back in just to keep it in there [since it can be expandable] but it slowly comes back out after usage. Just today i tried it on my bike lock and now its completely off and have to deal with putting it back in. Also my 8 pin picks tension rod got lost somewhere in my bag, any help/suggestions on what i can do and something i can request to make a tension rod myself at a home depot or something?

Thanks guys.<3

By tension rod you mean the roll pin on the inside of the tube, this is not needed in a tubular pick, as it does hinder the picking of some locks that does not have a notch in the centre, removing the roll pin just makes it a little more difficult to line up, but nothing bad, just look where your lining the feelers up and it should still work, if you've lost the roll pin from your 8 pin pick then tip your bag out and search for it :D , but again, the pin is not needed, the 8 pin will open 7 pin locks as well with the roll pin removed.

I have used a small piece of standard cycle wheel spoke to replace my tension insert, it was weak so ground down a section of allen (hex) key as it was tougher

these are good tools and fly the locks open, we find a fair few of these in our working day in London

I actually found the spare part at a Hardware store...it costs 15 cents a piece...works perfectly fine now.
As for not having a rollpin, opening a lock takes almost double the time to open...[minute or 2 compared to 30 seconds]

Thanks guys =D

so how do you open the locks that do not have a notch cut out of the centre? i think its down to the users preference with the roll pin, if it takes a minute or 2 to open a tubular lock then thats plenty of time to finish ya cuppa before starting on it, most locks i've opened have yielded well within 30 seconds, and my tube picks have the roll pin removed. :D
