I have a bunch of Abus locks (I'm Australian) and can confirm:

2x 83/45 (rekeyable) - No security pins in mine.
2x 83/50 (rekeyable) - No security pins in mine.
6x 72/40 (rekeyable) - 5 spool pins.

The 83s have very tight tolerances, and I find they open with W-/bogota-esque rakes with a fair amount of pressure, depending on the bitting.

The 72s are pricks. I have a handful of these, and find they open easiest with a slimline half diamond and a bit of patience. I don't recall ever raking one of these open.

Hope this helps.

I just started picking locks 2 days ago and I got this lock opened 4 times today, no luck before. This is the first lock I have ever tried in my life. You set it up with a thick tortion wrench that has a 90 degree bend in the handle. Use an opposing thinner wrench to fit the primary tortion wrench into place. I use a mid sized diamond, and for problem pins, a very accute angled diamond shaped like a hook almost. The big key is very light tension with these locks. Also, the order of the pins is really important for mine. I find that 15432 works best for me. For some reason, pin 1 picks very easily, but it's almost impossible to do 2 next, so I just gave up on the orderly fashion today and went right for 5 after. It works great! Backing off on the tension and reapplying ligt tension when pins are binding helped me a lot with my lock too. Though there still has to be enough tension to keep the successfully picked pins from falling again, or you have to start all over.

Hope this helps!

You can´t decide what order you pick your lock, it is different in every lock :)

The US Abus locks can be challenging. If taken slow and easy they will yield. My first was an 83/45. Picked it a couple of times right away and then got cocky. It didn't open till I backed off and took a deep breath. Used fundamentals and it opened. You just have to have a soft touch. Jon
