These types of picks have a powerful stroke that is used in warded keyways where the stroke is very restricted, you will find that before just putting the probe in and turning it on, it helps to look in the keyway and see where the pins sit at bottom, note the angle of the warding at this point, and if necessary, tilt the probe to stroke / at an angle \ that is copacetic with the direction of what the warding allows, the pins can only go in the direction of their drill holes, but they can recieve energy from a slanted stroke.
