for the effort and the price just get the fullset from bumpkeys .us(accuracy of linky?)
theres like 11 keys , they still need to be altered but will cover most... things like best you probably won't find commercially made keys for..... but if you find em and want em it's your money
for the most par just buy one key bump a lock and get over it.... it really isn't that much fun... i got bored pretty quick

Next time?
When was the first time?
As for the bump keys. look around you area and see what locks are most common. its its anything like england it varies massively depending on area.
The reason threads like this are met with so much sarcasm is because these questions have been asked many times before.
All the best

Depends on what kind of lock brands you plan on buying. Buying bump keys or any pick/bypass tool based on the type of locks you see in your area which you have no permission to tamper with will only tempt you to do naughty naughty things.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

You want bump keys for locks your most likely to encounter. Correct ???
This implies your in the "business" , and someone in the business would not ask such a stupid question in the first place, or .... your interest is not in locksport, just a means of opening locks you "encounter".
A rather different thing, illegal and not what this site is for.
I really do think the whole bump key thing should be kept off the public forums, legit users of these would not be asking such silly questions, and other types of users we could well do without.
Bump keys = script kiddies, script kiddie gets caught doin the crime, will cry like a baby and blame the nasty guys at lp101.com for putting him up to it!!!!
It's the "I want 2 hack my g/fs email account, u must help me" type idiot that I see all the time in computer forums, here it's "I mus have bumpkey, I need them now 2 open all locks I need 2 open, u must help" .........
If you want to revenge hack me I can be found a 127.0.0.1 anytime!
And if you want to call around you will need a Yale and a Chubb bumpkey, and a large bone to quell the big dog

I agree 100%.
Theres enough coverage on the www, and in the media in general about this subject, and its not wholly appropriate here.
Lets face it, using a bump key is only one step away from using your boot on a door, in terms of challenge/skill.
Can we have an official " Ban Bumpkey Banter" poll? at least in the public forums.

Personally I've never bumped a lock, as I must admit I've never had the patience to file down a key, or the inclination to spend too much time or money in either persuading a key-cutter to cut one from code, or pay over the odds for the keys online.
Part of me thinks that I should try it once, to get a feel myself for how it works, whether its as easy as people say etc, but I haven't got around to it yet.
Those who ask what bump keys should they get, should IMHO be treated the same way as those who ask how to pick their teacher's desk drawers, or disassemble their locker-lock to build a masterkey.
I can see three categories of people who open locks without keys
1.) Those who pick their own locks purely for fun and sport
2.) Those who pick others locks with the appropriate permission in case of lockouts.
3.) Those who pick other peoples locks without permission, either for burglary, trespass, or other unlawful activities.
If you want to play with bump keys:
Category 1 pickers will just make/obtain a bump key for whatever lock they have lying around. No "choice" really needed. Asking which bump-key to get is the same as asking what to have for lunch. Its not a major decision here.
Category 2 pickers shouldn't need any help from this board. If they don't know what they're doing, they shouldn't be playing with other people's locks, regardless of permission
Category 3 isn't and shouldn't be assisted by this board.

Don't waste your money on 6 pin bumpkeys. A 5 pin key will bump a 6 pin lock. If you get a 5 pin Schlage and Kwikset it will open about 90% of US locks.

Noobking, I will be to the point, bump keys are of no value or use to a hobbiest unless you doing a expierment to bump a highsecurity lock like Zeke did with the medeco.
Also you mentioned locks you encounter? That was a stupid thing to say, do not make a post like that cry about getting questioned and then go emo and say things about video games and hacking, becuase thats pathetic.
If bump keys are what you want.. then buy them. Do not dish out smartass posts and then whine that noone likes you.
Not to be an arse.. but honestly, you really tweak people off with this crap.

How do you get banned from a forum ??? Why do people dislike you ??? Think about these questions for a bit, see what answers you come up with.. lockpicking for me....it is just fun. idk, it just feels good when that lock opens doesn't it? and for impressing my friends.
I agree, it is fun, and it does feel great when you open a lock, especially when you have the key sitting beside you, but had no need for it!
That great feeling is the result of overcoming a challenge, sticking a bump key in a lock and hitting it is perhaps a challenge to a monkey, but to an intelligent human being not so.
It's fine for a locksmith as a method as it's quick, and time is money.
Learning to open locks as a method to impress "friends" is dubious at best, such "friends" will offer you ever increasing "challenges" which you will feel obliged to accept, in order that they remain your "friends".
You will end up opening locks to property that you do not own, you will end up "helping the police with their enquires" as they say around these parts!!
Your "friends' will be the first to run, and you will be having a long friendship with Bubba in a 10X4 cell in your local jail house ....
Enjoy
