I have made some of these out of wiper stiffener, They work well, I recommend that you cut the barrel of a bic biro pen to a length that will make a hand hold from the coil to the area where the striker hits the probe. this will allow you to hold it as you must hold it, without dampening the strike with your finger grip. the piece of pen allows enough completely loose hold on the probe and also saves your hand from that little bit of smack that you may have to take repeatedly.
Heres a tip I got from Jimmie on the use of one of these. its obvious if you think about it.
Look at the keyway, look at where the pins bottom, and take note of the angles of the keyway wards, you may have to tilt the snapper left \ or right / according to which way will avoid the warding.
If you pay attention to this, your count of how many snaps until it opens will go down significantly.
Also remember, to look at the hand made snapper and see if the probe itself is actually straight or if there is a tilt there to be compensated for.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
