8) Usually use spring steel about 3/16th thick look at some real picks and then draw yours on paper stick paper to steel and grind carefully just a touch at a time plunging into a tub of lard as you go ( grind (touch - lard) grind) the lard cools the steel before it has a chance to get hot and anneal (soften) Ok best of luck
New to lock picking interested in the technical side as a hoby only, (As Im always losing keys)

when i made mine, i used a spray bottle with ice water to keep the grinder and metal cool. from what i hear, hand files are supposted to be better, but im impatient :P

The hand file I use for the fine work is called a Dremel. :lol:

I'm with you :wink: My dremel gets used A LOT. The Dremel tool is one of those tools you don't think you'll use much until you get one.
