Attempting my first pick!

I have just joined this forum because I am interested in lock picking. I have never picked a lock before in my life and I wish to teach myself how to. If anybody can give me any advice on what lock picking set I should get and how is a good way to teach myself I would be very grateful. I would also like to know what type of locks are good for beginners to practice on.

There is a lot of info about, I would order direct from Southord (www.southord.com) that way yo0u get a free book on it. The MIT guide to picking is also good (http://www.capricorn.org/~akira/home/lockpick/) have a look around the site there is a lot of info. Look for a post by shrub and click his Sig or read the getting started post both have lots of info.

Dont buy one of the picksets that come with the book for the book theres much better stuff on here,

As said click my picture and look for the begineers picking exorcise by digital blue and also have a lok around at the other stuff on there,

The South Ord 14 piece set is a good place to start, its just down to finding the cheapest price, take a look at our sites sponcer first for some good deals,

Since you are in UK, select a slim-line (Euro) pick set instead of a standard pick set. The difference is the the shaft is narrower for European keyways. The Southord European sets begin with "C" while the standards sets begin with either "MPXS" or "PXS".

Sorry, I was meaning those starter kits. If you buy a set direct from Southord they throw something like easy picking s in for free. Which isn’t a bad starting point for absolute basics? Well if you order anything they seem to send you one. If your budget stretches that far I recommend the 22 piece slim line set (£30 ish for a whole hobby seems cheap to me). Its not prohibitive expensive but gives you some room to grow as your skill does.
