Idea for a snap gun?

Postby cbuk2k » 5 Sep 2006 16:16

What about this as a variation of the snap gun? Limit the travel of the needle with bump stops and make it travel straight up by driving it up a wedge. The needle impacting the pins would move forward and up, you could cut this like a bum key for added effect.

I think the wear rate would be high and the pick blade shooting forward would be a hinderance but i like the way of thinking,

Well you could limit the travel by steepening the angle of the ramp. Alternately you could use rotate the cam and motor 90 degrees. I think it’s the arc action that gets in the way when I use a snap gun.

Well the way around it would be to use a cam and shaft to move the thing, each point can then have a bearing on and it would be reasonably quiet as well,

Its not the radius thats stopping you picking with a gun its lack of practice as those that use them dont have any problem,

As i say though it is a reasonable idea,

No I can open locks with both my electric and manual pick guns, what I meant was that when I struggle its normally because I’m over lifting pins futher back due to arc.

Then you should angle your gun up so the tip doesnt lift as much at the tip,
