Just had a great idea. Everyones trying to make mechanical bump keys, and I've been grinding out some bogotas recently. I'm going to grind out a bogota that's shaped to fit my Electro-Pick.
FORGET the tiresome jiggling you do with your hands! Strap one of these babies on and your read to go, you just have to let'er rip and move your E-pick in and out. Genius if I do say so myself! (And I do.)

That's a pretty cool idea. I'd be interested to hear how it worked out. My own experience with Bogotas has me at least a little doubtful though. When I think about the motions I make with the rake, I can see that it wouldn't be easily reproduced by something mechanical. As well, I do vary those motions based on feedback as I rake; I think this would be more difficult with an e-pick.
But as I said, seems a worthwhile endeavor and I'll look forward to hearing about it. I'd think that an in/out motion would be more effective than an up/down one.

You can get blades for pickguns that use the same princible but making your own would mean you could bend them 90' and get the afore mentioned in and out motion instead of the up and down,

Heh. Good point Shrub. Actually, I wonder if perhaps a 45 degree angle might not be just right. A healthy mix of up/down and forward/back might best simulate the kind of motion I make with a Bogota.

I suggest a EPG is a little fast and a specific gun made with a cam and a reciprocating motion would work wonders,
Its not difficult to knock somthing up for me just to try this out so ill maybe look into it once ive finished somthign else im supposed to have made 12 months ago
Ive thought of the idea on and off includeing a bumkey thing for a while now but this thread is just bringing it all together, its good to talk

Ok ive revisited an older idea of mine that i got laughed at for suggesting but i think it would be perfect here,
I suggested a while ago that EPG could be WUPG (Wind Up) as in those small bath toys kids have or those wind up spider things that run along the carpet for cats,
If we stick to the spider idea,
Remove the stuck on fur cover and the bendy wire arms to leave you with a simple cylinder with two output shafts and a winder,
Now put a offset weight (a disc with the hole off centre) on to the out put shafts and then attach your bogota to that, the amount of vibration given off one of those things is massive so that will give you the too much coffee state that you want in a bogota,
I still havent played with the powerr of wind up toys but i do have an old spider somewhere that the dog used to play with, ill have a go and see what i can do at weekend,

ok this is quite an interesting idea. i haven't used one myself but ive seen vids of them used.
And for an eclectic version a think a scaled down wiper motor box would be prefect. that would provided the <----> motion, then have the actual pick mounted on the edge pf a wheel. that would provide the <---> motion as well as up and down .
Let me know what u think

I was looking at the newsparkling site, the photo for 4055 enlarged, there appears to be a fork like (bi lock) tip for that pickgun, and some other things that could be bottle brushes. allinall some interesting tips for that motor.
