pickgun pick strength

well bought a lockpick gun for fun now. was just curious, how strong are the picks that come with http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ID=11&HS=1[/url] heard they break pretty easily

My HPC PistolPick is a little over 5 years old and I'm currently using the last of the 3 tips that came with the gun. I used it pretty much daily for about 5years so I think I got my money out of the tips. If you know someone who is breaking tips then tell them to ease off quite a bit.

I've never had a problem with gun's picks breaking. I don't have a manual pick gun, only an electric pick gun but the principle is obviously similar.

On the subject of pick gun picks, anyone have any experience with non-standard picks such as those at the bottom of this page: http://www.multipick-service.com/en/tools/epick_en.htm or similar home made tools?

I suppose the picks are pretty sturdy and built to take a beating, but they do tend to come loose after a couple of jolts to the tumblers, so you have to tighten and keep tightening the bolt and screw that secure the pick.

mbell I just got a slightly curved pick for my electopick. It resembles the PB-8 on the multipick site. A friend of mine swears by them but I haven't noticed any real difference in my success rate using it. I don't know what you would use some of those rakes for...Carving the Christmas goose

If you have problems with the screws that hold the tip coming loose on your pick gun you could try going to the local automotive store and grabbing some mild thread locker. (loc-tite, permatex, etc..) Don't get the strongest stuff, and don't use more than a tiny bit. This stuff is strong! It will keep the screws in there good, and they can still be removed when you need to. Just put some more on when you replace the tip.

Keep the thread locking compound away from things that need to move freely, of course. (pins, keys, springs)

If you are having a breaking problem, Peterson sells pick gun tips made of moly-steel. Im not sure if they are actually worth what they are charging for them though.

A while back I bought the pistolpick at a yard sale Think I paid 50 cents for it. I don't have any tips, I still have the broken one so I have the end for a pattern, Any Ideas how I can make some or were I can buy some for cheep, I am not a lock smith, (do I need to be or know one) to buy them??
