Rekeying Brinks Door Handle lock

Postby wells78660 » 12 Dec 2004 14:22

I just bought a house and all my deadbolts are keyed to the same key. I found in Walmart a Brinks door handle set that says it can be rekeyed so as to match existing keysets. What is the process to do this? I know my existing deadbolts were set to a master key and when I placed my homeowners key into the lock and used it it rekeyed the lock to my keyset. Is it the same kind of process? The box doesn't say on it.
Thanks!

If you're new to the hobby/business, you may just want to run the handle into a qualified locksmith. There's not much to rekeying these, but the $10 you'd spend on a pinning kit might be better spent at shop.

Outside of that, you'd need to make sure the lock has the same keyway as your existing key (Brinks uses SC1 and KW1). PM me for detailed instructions (don't want to bore the kids here), if you're bent on doing it yourself.

If when reading the information provided about the lock on the box then you won't be able to complete the process. First read about rekeying and masterkeying. I recommend www.howstuffworks.com. Aswell, there might be more information on the subject within the forum.

goto http://lockpicks.com they have pin kits, and do it yourself house kits
I believe brinks uses the same key as kwikset the KW1 so get that kit, and you should be able to rekey your locks
it's really a simple procedure, and the kit comes with intructions

It will either be the Kwikset pins (for KW1 keyway) or the Schlage pins (for SC1 keyway). Those are the only two currently used by brinks for residential locks.
