many people here seem to make sweeper bristle picks, I don't know how many have the twist to flat wire handle that you can see in some of the pictures of picks I make, but I know quicklocks makes them straight, and many people like the popsicle handles. Also a storage case is useful,
So heres an idea, some sort of metal tube, flatened in a vise to grip the pick shaft, at the end where the thumb and forfinger would normally grip a popsicle handle. and various picks stored inside the rest of the tube, with a screw on cap. All that really needs to be done with this is a way of clamping the pick into the end of the tube, after the first pick is removed. At the moment I am pictureing a tube with a screw cap on one end, filled with various pick shafts, and a place where one pickshaft can protrude from a mashed flat end, I would not put this in the center of the end, but at one side, and the picks could be put in in either the points up or the points down orientation. A small bend on the end of the pick shaft would prevent it from falling completely out, and and some means of clamping it very steady and hard would be the final touch, quick release of course, A sort of clamp operated by a lever would be quickest. Does this concept give anyone any ideas? Hope the part I tried to pass on is clear enough!

that sounds like a really good idea, im having a bit of trouble picturing it though, how good are you with paint?
if it works out and you, or someone else, makes one, i'd love to see it, i've got picks made from sweeper bristles (well...one so far) and im having trouble holding them because of how thin they are, they keep sort of flipping upside down in the lock, so a handle will be good if someone can dream up a good one.

you probably mean paint the program for drawing and coloring, actually i can do quite well in that but I am not using my own computer, and these cafe machines don't have that. about your pick being difficult to hold you might look at romstars thread, "Raimundos picks" or something like that, it shows photos of some bristle picks that can be controlled quite well with a 90 degree twist to a handle.

ok, i'll look that up, thank you!
as for the comuters, i dont know what they're like, but if you can make some kind of text file saved as a webpage you can write some simple html to get paint and most other programs. open something like notepad, paste this in and save it as file.html
<a href="c:\windows\mspaint.exe">paint</a><br>
<a href="c:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe">paint</a><br>
<a href="c:\windows\explorer.exe">explorer</a><br>
<a href="c:\">c:\</a>
that should give you acces to a lot of things you need, paint is there twice since i dont know what windows system the computers are running. sorry if you already knew all this, im just trying to help

You can also usually just right click on the desktop, and create new shortcut, although that works less often.

For handles for street sweeper bristle picks, I use multiconductor wire with all the wires stripped out, leaving only the outer plasticy part. I find some that gives a decently snug fit, and use a bit of epoxy at each end.
Also, Master in training: what kind of restrictions do you have? computers at my school are also pretty locked down, although it is very easy to bypass any of them. We have novell zenworks, and it's really easy to get around all the restriction.

they all seem to be windows admin controls, messages like "the administrator has disabled this function" and stuff like that. they have 2 networks right now, one runs Windows 98Se with NT on top for the network boots, the other has XP Pro, which is much more secure.
im not sure what restriction programs they run because they monitor everything, if anyone gets caught on a site they shouldn't be on or anything like that, they get a warning, another and they're booted off the network. so im careful not to get tinto too much trouble, since i do ICT as an A-Level, no computer use would be hard...
you cant use the run command or anything, its all disabled. all you can get to work are hyperlinks on the old systems and renaming programs, on the new systems, even that doesnt work. they disabled everything on the old ones, you couldn't even access floppy disks!!

for the blocked sites thing, which is probably the hardest part, goto nocensor.citizenlab.org. If it's blocked, type that into google then hit cache. I'd look at it at home first, though.
since i do ICT as an A-Level
what does that stand for?

ICT - Information and Communications Technology, basically working with computers.
A levels are just a type of qualification, compulsory education ends at 16, these are another course that goes from 16-18.
as for the site filters, i use a translation engine like googles translator or http://www.altavista.babelfish.com, you just translate the site from anything to english ans it works

Hmm, and i thought bypassing was for the advanced section only
As for the handles:
I've done several types of handles for my DIY picks:
*the insulation of multiconductor wire, which i heat with a hot air gun (is this the correct term?). As long as it's warm, it slips over the pick quite easy. Migh work well in combination with twisted handles. Works better than nothing for me.
*the handle of small screwdrivers. I attach a short pick(~8cm) to the shaft of a screwdriver by clamping them together with two terminals of an insulating screw joint (remove the insulation in first place). I cut off the blade of the screwdriver for this purpose. I might post an image of this later if i get access to a cam. I "invented" this as i was short on bristles and eager to try out some pickprofiles. Works ok for me, thou the picks become a little clumpsy.
*the twisted handles like raimundo uses them for his bogota rakes. I like them for raking as i feel the springiness of the handle suports the effect of the rake but i never get the control i want when using the half diamond. I started to rake with the halfdiamond successfuly.
I've seen/thought about other types of handles as well. I can't really say anything about those thou, as i never tried them.
*I saw people wrapping gaffa around the handles. Looks evil. I don't think I'd like the grip.
*capt.dunc uses coffee stirers glued on and sanded, and give very good feedback
They look sooo lovely, and they are one of the funniest things i've ever seen on LP101. If you haven't checked out those have a look at: http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=8049&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
*I thought about brass tubes which could be hammered flat on the ends to hold the pick. Soldering, filling with epoxy and cutting grip on it come to my mind.
*heating narrow strips of plexyglass, and then putting the pick between two of those would be nice too. (you could get a really nice finish on those)
*bending some sheet metal around the handle, eventualy soldering the pick to the sheet in first place, should work well either.
*heat shrink wrap, quite similar to the insulation mentioned above, applied in one or more layers
just my 0,2€

Raimondo,
You could have the tube just with flat sides almost like a rectangle but much more rounded,
You could then drill a hole through the side off centre,
In the tube you could put a small bearing that has an offset hole,
The bearing would be held in place with a pin/axle going through the side of the tube through the bearing,
On one side of the axle you would have a small 'arm' 'lever' and the opposite side held captive,
On turning the lever the cam inside would move up and down but not do a full rotation as its hitting the inside of the tube,
Place your pick in and turn the lever, the cam grips the pick and a little over turning of the lever locks it in place against the springyness of the tube,
The inside of the tube could be filed to accomodate the pick balde so it is held securely in the other planes the cam doesnt.
I hope this made sence and helps with your train of thought

Raimundo, good post. Thank you.
Folks discussing bypassing content filters and cafe computer/school computer security: Ever wonder why the thread on getting past school proxies disappeared before?
Cheers.

DB,
Would it be poss for you to just delete the schooly threads instead of locking/deleting the whole thread as the original post topic could go somewhere, im going to try my idea out and go from there.
It would be a shame to spoil this thread because of school boy banter.
