Lockpick Dimensions- Please help!

Ok, I have the materials to make picks (hacksaw blades, dremel), have some templates, but need the exact dimenions of some purchased picks. Can someone please measure them and tell me what they are. I am new to picking, so I would greatley appreciate getting dimenion for some standard picks.

36-24-32.... ? No, wait, wrong dimentions....

But, if you have templates, I don't get the need for dimentions. Use the templates. That's what they're for. Otherwise we'd just make stick drawing of picks to post on Zeke's site. ;)

I'll assume you're in North America? Don't ask me to convert them if you're not.

Code: Select all
Piece                      Commercial                Acceptable

Shaft length               1.50 inches                1.25-2.00 inches
Shaft height               0.1875-0.0625 inches (tapered)     Same
Handle                     3.00 inches                2.00-4.00 inches
Double sided pick          4.00-4.50 inches           3.50-5.00 inches
Torque wrench head         0.50-0.75 inches           0.50-1.00 inches
Torque wrench handle       3.00 inches                2.00-4.00 inches

I can't remember where I got these from so don't blame me if they're off. And I don't know what picks the measurements are from either. In fact, I have no idea how these got onto my computer. Just a file buried in the Lock Information folder. :D HTH

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

Thanks Chrispy! I live in Canada, but I'm european. I'll convert them later, but that's very useful. Again, thanks!

You can also go much smaller on the "torque wrench head" 2-10mm are also fairly useful sizes, especially the smaller ones. I find these less likely to slip when I need tension at the top of a keyway.
