tried it once, very briefly. Cost me a small fortune and resulted in lots and lots of timewasting questions, people wanting advice how to fit stuff they had bought at car boot sales etc, and lots of people trying to sell me stuff, ie advertising used it too.

Think about it, unless you are a national company who tends to have customers sitting on hold for ages and offer a freephone number to placate them, what kind of calls are you going to get with a freephone number ? probably just those people who are too tight to pay for a phone call .............

I'm dropping my 0800 number this year, after feedback from customers who look for a local number rather than an 0800 number which could be anywhere. Yes I know the national use a range of local numbers, but at least adopting a local number levels the playing field a little.

if you are thinking about a freephone number use the both in case you chosen advertiser doesnt send you a proof prior to publishing it happened to me in yp were they missed a number off the freephone number for two years in two books.
with my freephone numbers i get a breakdown every month where in the country are using this number and surprisingly all over the country are using it junk calls from salespeople. only advertise in bham nth & wolves editions,
I think now the freephones have run there course as people now are advertising with 0845 0870, also you can buy local numbers my company is based in a 0121 area but i can buy a 0161 number and have it attached to my 0121 number not right is it to mislead the public that my company is also based in manchester
