It is some sort of electric release lock There is a standard sash lock strike in the frame that has a soleinod at the back which is wired to the button mounted on the wall. There is a euro sash case in the door which has a connection under the latch which lines up with the soleinod on the frame. When you press the button on the wall it releases the door. My experience with electric releases is limited to the standard Adamrite etc. Never seen this before and am trying to source a replacement. The only markings on the lock itself is NT?

Newman Tonks owned Legge but now you need IR locking in South Shields. Very helpful if you give them a call.
