How do you pick the ASSA SCD?
You don't.

That lock is without doubt one of (if not THE) most difficult 7-pin lock on the market today. Stop trying. Practice enourmously on other locks first to improve your skill, then you can try picking the ASSA 701/712 SCD. If you're skillful, you get it open. But before that, fuggedaboudit, because it will only drive you mad.
Read Han Fey's whitepaper with lock cutaways and you'll see why (www.toool.nl)

ASSA 7 Pin

Postby fjardeson » 15 Apr 2006 17:09

That lock has the most evil pins I've ever seen. If Han Fey says it probably can't be picked, than I'd have to believe him!

Oh, it CAN be picked allright. I know about some people here in sweden who are able to pick it. Though many locksmiths here in sweden claim it to be totally pickproof :P
But it's a difficult lock nevertheless. I've tried it many times, but never succeeded. The hardest thing with it is not the pins, it is the enourmusly high spring tension. This also makes the lock bump-proof. A friend of mine has succeeded bumping it ONE single time in over a hundred attempts. But of course, the spring tension and the sneaky pins in combination makes it a extremely difficult lock.

I have picked them. most of the locks i pick are in fact 7 pin and 5 pin assa locks. 5 pin locks is becomming a thing of the past in sweden. With a few exceptions, all companies in sweden use assa scd. And the general public are in the process of changing their old 5 pin assas to 7 pin assa locks. the high spring tension, low manufacturing tolerances combined with a keyway that does not like tension tools makes it a very difficult lock, or should i say frustrating. No lock is hard to pick, they are just more or less frustrating :)
The locksmiths in sweden tend to say that the cylinder is pickproof. They are all wrong.
but they just say what the general public needs to hear.
I would still bet my money on a medeco cylinder instead of the assa scd in regard of pick resistace. but when it comes down to securing property and belongings pick resistance is never really the issue.
