mortice lock help

Postby gazzaull25 » 9 Jul 2006 10:03

hi can someone please help me with what picks i will need from the cb range of mortice picks for the era profit bs and the viscount range i think these are 7 gauge.
Also the union 2201 red case and the bs range of union mortice locks which i think is a 5 gauge.
These are the most common locks in my area.
Can the same picks work on the locks if the lock is fitted on the right side or the left side (bolt and lever)?
many thanks in advance
gary

The CB picks work from either side of the door,

The ones you need are the 5/5.5g pocket curtain pick and the 7g pocket curtain pick,

You will pick most locks with the same tool but the newer BS locks somtimes need a new wire or modded stem on the pick,

The fortress needs a differant wire and a modded stem,

The new securefast needs a differant wire as well,

You will be fine witht he standard tools for now and then you can look at getting the other wires when youve built ome cash up again otherwise yes get the other wires while your at it,

Don't forget the 'L' wire for the new Legge.

Once you have one of each its not to hard to make your own copies. Though the new wires are a lot more complicated than the standard wire.

Cheers

Oh... and the 'E' wire for the 114E....

I seem to have a lot of wires all of a sudden... you used to only need one!
