118 118

Every so often i call the above number and similar to check my number is being given out as this can be a good source of calls. I hadn't called for a while and have just done so, and was given about 6 locksmiths in my town I have never heard of. I then looked on www.118118.com and searched and the same thing pages of the same, mainly numbers beginning 07017 and giving call centre addresses in my area i know for a fact there is no call centre
I then investigated with 3 random locations in uk Bognor, Northampton, chelmsford all showed the same number trading under different names one that stuck out was zippy locksmiths
Is it just me or is this out of order and basically uindermining what the likes of 118118 is there for to give you, various details in the area of DIFFERENT businesses?? And not as it seems one of the nationals
I am on to customer service tomorrow to hear their side, as myself and others stand once in blue moons chance of their number being given out if it on a rotation basis Your thoughts please even try a search in your area to see what you can find. sorry if this subject has already been posted didnt search just wanted to vent my anger arrrggh

I'll reply so dont think nobody likes you I recently attended a lockout and upon comlpletion of the job asked the customer where he had obtained my number. The guy told me he had got it from 118 247 although when he called 118 118 first they told him they had no numbers listed for locksmiths based in the bolton area and offered him a call centre number he declined this offer and got me from yellow pages. When i checked the 118 118 web site my number is listed with them allong with quite a few other Bolton lockies. Seems to me that maybe 118 118 have some kind of deal going with the nationals to give them preferential treatment.

I would advise anyone using 118 247 to use a different phone number than you usually use (if you use your home number get a 0845 or 0800 number) you will see exactly how many times your number has been used.
After a few months ring yell and ask for a summary of how many times they have given your number out. If your summary and theirs are the same I will show my arse in woolies window. Their summary will show 3 to 8 times higher than yours AMAZING  They will not give your number out you are only advertising in one area.
......................................................................................................................................... ....................... ................ aaaaaaaaa locksmiths are advertising over the whole country.
When you realise it's bollocks, save your money and have a good piss up instead

I would agree with autolox and Cred as the number of calls I have had from 118 247 have been very few and far between and I will not be using there services again in the future as the expense far outways the rewards for doing so I have had more response fron 118 212 and 118 500 both of which cost me nothing.

Same here with 118 247. 1 call in over 8 months, absolutely pathetic.

I mailed them a while ago to confirm my accout was actually active and this was included in their response:

I am sorry to hear that you have not had the desired response
from your advertising, however, please be advised that Yell cannot make any guarantee that our advertisers will receive business enquiries through advertising with us.

Funny, I'm sure the sales rep made just those guarantee's when talking me into signing up with them.

When the rep came around to see me about renewing my advert with yellow pages a while back he brought my stats for 118 247 with him and it turned out that in the previous 21 months my number had been given out a total of 20 times by them, now I had already decided not to renew the 118 number with them and the rep agreed that the responce was very poor and even he wouldnt recomend renewing.

Just checked 118118.com myself for my own listing and get the first 3 or 4 pages listing 07017 or something numbers, with the occasional zippy locksmiths etc thrown in. Loads of street addresses all starting 'call point....."

I presume these are the numbers being given out first.

I know it is free (unless you have a paid-for listing or other way of getting your name to the top) but has no-one at 118 seen fit to investigate this? And who are Zippy Locksmiths????

regards
