Watch some guy ritchie films, i.e. lock stock and snatch, the dialogue alone is worth it

open doors

Michael Moore in one of his moveis says that many Canadians leave their front doors unlocked when they are at home. Apparently they're just not paranoid about criminals.

when I'm home (and not sleeping) I leave my door unlocked, but then again I'm a force to be reckoned with

We personally lock the door most of the time, especially when we're away or at night, bu I know the majority of my friends leave their doors unlocked most if not all of the time

Well i like to pretend that in the case of a thief my house is pentagon material. I just shrug away the fact that theres a Kwickset between me and a possile 9mm.

So uhh.. nobody come kick my door in with an 8mm, seriously i has some serious nunchuck skills computer hacking skills, all these skills, don't mess with me.

Waffels..

I know that very well. I am a lazy <censored> as well when it comes down to locking when leaving. I recently ordered an ELV Keymatic IQ+ automatic driver to overcome that issue. When it arrives I'll post an review. The idea of that one is pretty cool. It is a little bolt on box, that mounts to the inside of the door, right over the cylinder. You just need an cylinder that is sticking out 10mm and can be operated with a key inserted from both sides. You just leave the key in on the inside, the device mounts over it and when triggered by the keyfob (Keeloq system as used in car keyfob) a motor turns that key to lock or unlock position automatically.

I just love overcoming laziness by technology.

When you install it, can you make a guess if it might work with a cylinder that protudes less than 10mm? Because the one on my house door of course does not.
Do you think there might be an option to use glue to compensate?

Thanks,
mh

Oh well, you're opening a can of worms there... I was at our local locksmith today to have my 3KS refitted to a longer length and kinda screwed up, I had only 5mm length added, so when the thing arrives I have to figure out exactly what you are asking or go to the shop again.

This pic shows kinda nicely how the attachment is done. It is just that collar clamping to the cylinder and having to hold the entire device. Maybe with some careful work one could put a kind of profile into the collar and a countering slot into the cylinder so the collar will not just have to rely on being held in place by a big area of binding friction.

One could also try to cut out something from the inner plate (Langschild). On my plate, I could actually remove the entire lower part, if I figure out a good way to keep the lower screw secured tightly (the one that counters in the thread on the outer handle plage and hods it tight).

But maybe you are right and firmly fitting the collar and adding a shot of glue or liquid metal does the job just as well.

I will sort this out upon arrival, take a few nice pics of the device and the mounting process and comment on that further as there is at least one person interested... :)

Oh, BTW, when you were mentioning the ELV/Abus issue, I have spent quite some time trying to find the specs on the Abus one to no avail. I have seen that the old ELV Keymatic is around 80€ at ELV and the Keymatic IQ+ is about 120€. The old has 1.6 nm of torque and the new is at 2.5nm. Just today I have found a dealer that states the Abus Hometec CFA1000 (normal model) is 2.5nm but that is only a single source so it might not be reliable.

Another thing... When I was in the store today I asked the guy about the Abus one and he mentioned that are selling the Keso mozy which has 1.6nm. He says if something is blocking the force will twist a key, but I think that is poppy _...

So, the cheaper Abus Hometec might be the same as the ELV IQ+ at the same force if the one source is right... It sure is 20€ cheaper though...
