Dom Half Euro cam removal

Postby LockNewbie21 » 1 Jun 2007 2:40

I have one of these and I cannot get the cam off.

Allow me to go into detail as my digi cam is dead.

It is a half pintumble euro 5 pin nothing special, it has 3JH17 stamped ont he side if that helps.

Basically it has an cam that can be adjusted, there is a pin on the back that is spring loaded and needs to be lifted to remove the rear piece.

I have removed it once by lifting and applying preasure to the rear piece.

I adjusted it and now it doesn't but, the retaining pin moves up but the backing does not pop out.

I am sorry I am not 100% savy with euro cylinder lingo, if noone can see the problem, I can snap a picture tomarrow.

Thanks again guys.

I'm not totally getting what you're meaning.
Problems with euro cams is that many manufacturers have their own way of mounting the cams (for as far as europrofile goes), so there are 1001 different ways.
A picture should be very helpfull.

Cheers,

Heres what I could get.

The pins are at the top right, the top left are the remains of my WInkhaus, and the bottom two are the sets from my Abus X1.. killer lock

Ah Winkhaus.... good memories....
Can dream those :)

Anyway, i'll snap back to reality.
There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to press the retaining pin on the side of the cam (there is a spring loaded retaining pin there, right?) that allows you to move the cam around without turning the plug.

For as far as i can see, it's a matter of:
-remove the circlip
-pick it or use a key to turn the plug
-pull out the plug a bit
- the pulling out of the plug should free the cam if it's a simple one.
If it's one with a spring loaded retaining pin, fully press it with a tension wrench while slowly pulling out the plug (or do whatever you feel should free the plug, as i mentioned before, eurocams have many different ways of being disassembled as the make varies).

That should get that baby disassembled, i guess.

Cheers,

Jordy

PS: If this hasn't helped you, you might be better off during a live chat convo with a european, MSN or something like that.

...and assembled, of course.

Anyway, just curiosity, but where do the ball bearings go?
Same place as the passive sidepins in the Winkhaus?

Haven't disassembled many DOM locks as it's hard to lay hands on the better ones without paying too much.

I'm afraid you misunderstood me.
I was already assuming that the ball bearings went into the ABUS XP1, as they were grouped with the pins at the bottom of the image (thanks for confirming that though).
What I was wondering was: where in the lock do they reside, and what role/purpose do they serve?

Yours,

I don't know about the Winkhaus ?? In the XP1 you find them in the bottom(top for euro, bottom for us) of the keyway and they are passive (they are just trouble) !!

Ah, keys always do the trick.
The winkhaus pins do the same.
You can recognise them in LN21's picture as the little mushroom shaped objects (not like mush-pins!) that lay cluttered next to the pins in the upper part of the picture with pins.

I think that it is safe to conclude that the only difference between those from the DOM and those from the Winkhaus is:
-The shape
-The amount (in winkhaus, they come in two rows of up to 5 or 6, and with some models also at different heights, like in the middle of the key).

I believe that TOOOL NL has a good article on Winkhaus if you're interested in the brand.

Yours,

Jordy

Yes that correct, the brass and chrome are booth of diffrent sizes.

There completely passive, however, if you snp gun the lock which i do form time to time just for the kec of it, and you contact on of these, th can be pushed or moved with a hook freeing the cylinder.

The tough part was I mixed up one passive pin, and it cost me the lock, I had to cutit open trying to not damage the plug not pins (Pssive and active).

And the passive pin jammed itself in the plug, and the key is still stuck I let it in there as a reminder.. Take my time with winkhaus's.

Other than that I tip my hat to the germans, as the locks are great for the price.
