Hello All,
A while ago, I asked about a Legge S323 nightlatch I have. I've had another look at the lock, and now I've got some further questions.
Firstly, the main rim cylinder seems to consist of a smaller cylinder (I'm pretty sure it's a standard knobset cylinder) held inside a sort of blank holder that brings the format up to a standard rim cylinder size. Does any one know how this works? Specifically I'd like to know how you can take it apart to replace one of the outer bodies with a new one (or replace the knobset cylinder, depending on how you look at it), as the finish on mine looks awful but I like the lock and I don't believe (I hope I'm wrong; see below) that you can replace the interior cylinder on the handle, so that would seem to rule out changing the whole exterior cylinder, as obviously I wouldn't want the two to be keyed differently. I've looked, but I can't see a screw or any other obvious way of taking it apart.
Secondly, when I asked about this lock before, the people that replied thought it wouldn't be possible to replace the interior cylinder (in the handle on the inside of the door) with another one - I would quite like to rekey my lock so that I can have a keyed-alike system on my house. However, the fact that the main rim cylinder is actually a knobset cylinder makes me feel quite optimistic that the interior one is too. Does anyone actually know for sure? I really don't want to take mine apart and risk losing springs etc when I could just ask.
Thanks very much!
