ERA 6 pin approach

Postby zikmik » 17 Mar 2008 5:42

Hi,
I bought yesterday my first ERA (not so common here) and after more then two hours I menage to achieve these
it was a mix of rake, spp and pure luck.
I didn`t have a clear vision how I did it because I couldn`t menage to do it agin so I try to find help on net and I find these:

These guy open it as fast as beer can and we are talking here about 4 high security driver pins that have a very thin lip on the spool.
So I wonder is it posible or he mess with pins beacuse at the beginig of video he display all cylinder parts,or I nead to practice much much more?

The ERA 6 Pin is a moderately difficult lock to hand pick and anyone who does that is very lucky, or has doctored the pins.

No lock of this configuration gives up that easily on a regular basis. Some pin configurations of this lock are incredibly shallow, almost to the point of the key being a blank. In those cases it may be possible to rake open some ERAs quickly (have had at least one that opened as soon as I put my EPG in it) but don't bet on it!

Persevere with single pin picking the lock you have and get a feel for the spool pins setting. It'll open again one day!

the era 6 pin is a type, but with all the key variations, there are always some combinations that will seem to pick easily, regardless of security pins, and also most types also have a few really difficult combinations, so not all ERA 6pin locks would pick alike. I have even seen a master padlock that was extremely resistant to picking, but I wonder if it was somekind of broken lock, jammed somehow.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Cheers great job on the opening :)

I just love euro profile Locks because there tollerences compared to US locks make them a joy to pick mostly becuase there very challenging also the lot utilize security pins or passive locking elements so it really is a nice puzzle.
