which blank would fit this kinguard lock?

After seeing the video of jos weyers at HAR2009 I've decided to give impressioning a try...

I've this cable lock lying around, it's a standard 5 pin lock (no security pins). Picking it is really, really easy. I've lost the key but I remember it was almost flat. Do you think it's a good lock to impression?
The masterlock 532 key enter completely but with a lot of friction. Which blank would fit this kinguard lock? The measuring tape you see is metric so you see cm not inches.

Thanks :)

I don´t know that exact lock, but many cheap locks with that kind of keyway accept tri-circle blanks.
I would try TRI-5D (JMA) / TL6 (Silca).
If you can get measurments of keyway, I can check it.

Thanks Wizer, I should have known a measuring tape is not enough to measure a keyhole

I have to look for my caliper... it could take a few days.

Cheers :)

I did my best measuring the keyway. Let me know which blank would fit.

Thanks :)

This tri-circle blank that I suggested would still be my first choice.
It is slightly smaller, so I think it would fit the lock. Maybe it is even better to have a little space to wiggle the blank? It is only 6,8mm high so if any pin goes all the way to top when picking it, this won´t do. And the last pin in lock should not be further than 19-20mm in lock.
Hope this helps, maybe someone knows the exact blank?

No, there aren't long pins.
If I insert a pick it touches the external side of the last pin at 18 mm so the blank you suggested should be ok.
I'll make a BST post to buy some blanks.

Thanks Wizer :)

Hi Jos,

when I watched your video for the first time I was surprised by your great ability and I had a feeling of satisfaction myself. To build something from the beginning, a piece at a time, put everything at its own place... it is similar to picking. I liked your video so much and I've been inspired by it. Now I want to have a try! I need to find the right blanks, but it is only a matter of time. I'll post my progress.

Cheers :)

in re that part of the question "is this a good lock to learn impressioning on" my guess is no. to learn impresioning I would reccommend that you start with a lock that has no parts over the plug, parts such as the drill breakers or a cap lamination on a laminated padlock,
definately if you tried to impression a master laminated padlock the shoulder of the key has to be cut down so it dosent take all the impressioning on that shoulder where it rams into the bottom lamination,
Yours only has that piece of orange plastic to interfere with the impressioning but for a first lock impressioning, I would reccommend a lock with nothing over the plug end.
Just looking at the keyway, an american lock #4 key would be one to try for fit. You may not have that blank in europe, try the other suggestions for a blank first I suppose.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Thanks for your tips Ray. I have already put aside this lock because it was difficult to find a blank for it.
For my first impressioning experience I choose a kwikset kik I got times ago. I'm waiting for a few blanks and a couple of files that should already be in the mail.

I'll keep the forum updated with a brand new topic when I start

Cheers :)

I started impressioning but with another lock (Schlage SC1). So the story continues here.

Cheers :)
