Are the bottom pins used in the 7-pin MTL locks shaped different? Cos when I took mines apart, the top portion of the bottom pin seemed like it was wider as if someone had gave it a whack with a small hammer. Is this normal for these locks?

Should be normal shaped with spool pins, bring it to March meeting and I'll have a look : )
