Need help identifying lock, Spain.

Postby Fugazi » 21 Oct 2010 17:28

Can anyone help me to identify this lock, at least the type? Found in Spain, specifically Madrid. There are no manufacturer markings.

I am really a novice and so would appreciate any pointers as to what type of lock it is. I can see the wafers but I don't understand how one would go about beginning picking, somehow keeping the central wafers depressed and the torsion wrench in position. I feel like I'm short a hand!

I'm assuming that it is at least intended to be high security, all the doors in the building are steel plate reinforced and framed, with multiple bolts and "high security" locks, Fichet etc.

Had some junkies smash their way into the vacant flat below mine (it took them some time, several attempts over the course of a couple of weeks) with the intention of squatting, bit of a scene, the upside being that the frame gave before the lock. I managed to salvage the front door lock with only a kink in the bolts, the mechanism still moves one full position. Unfortunately the threads on the cylinder sheath have sheared with the trauma and so I'm not able to disassemble to get a look inside...

p.s. I apologise if any terms or my description is confusing, still picking up the jargon ;)

It's a double bitted lever lock, not sure which make though. These aren't picked like pin/wafer tumblers, you need to apply tension to the bolt. You should be able to find some diagrams of the insides on google, but you'll definately want to try picking regular lever locks first :D

Solomon,

Great, thanks, as I say I am a novice and really have no idea beyond basic pin tumblers and combis. So far my only success has been with cheap padlocks and bog standard street level types. Still experimenting with levers, given that my tools are mostly home-made* it's a slow process...

I'll do my homework and post any success, could be some time on this one!

*I've somehow got the idea that designing my own tools is a good way to further my understanding, please correct me if this is a fallacy.

 A quick Google search based on Solomon's info comes up with the useful titbit that these types of lock mechanism are most commonly used on safes...I've clearly over-reached here! Well, one for the future reference bin I think.

I think this lock is a SIS lock from Portugal. It's look like the Mottura pump lock.

Thanks, it does look like a Mottura.

I probably should have mentioned before that the lock may have been installed more than 30 years ago. Inside the flat, none of the decor has been changed since the 1970s so I doubt the door has either.

Wow I'm stupid. I was thinking mottura at first but I've been looking into lever locks a lot lately and that just kinda came out

Elphreaker has picked one of these, no idea how he did it though.

Couple more pics, it occurred to me that somebody might find images of the guts useful...

Best I can do I'm afraid, until I have time to try to bend back the bolts I can't disassemble any further :(

Thanks, seen the video, helps a lot. Do you know if Elphreaker is a member of the forum? Under another name?
