Chris Belcher Multi Gauge Pick.

Postby AbleGoose » 19 Jan 2013 9:46

A few months ago I bought this CB Multi gauge pick from a trade show and at the time of purchase
I was told it could pick open any BS Mortise lock except for the securefast with a blue case.

I have since been practising on various locks with it, however I have only managed to pick one open (consistantly)
the Union J2234, in every other lock the wires don't seem to have enough room to operate and snag up really easily.

Has anyone else had this problem or am I doing something wrong?
Any tips would be appreciated.

The locks I have been practising on are:

Union J2234 sashlock (as mentioned)
Era Invincible sashlock
Chubb 3G114 (old style)
Asec BS deadlock
Securefast deadlock (black case)

Hi,

I may be saying a whole lot of rubbish, but can't it be that the wires are to long for those locks?
Is it possible for you to build shorter wires that have the exact right size to lift the levers without snagging? That way you get a good set of all around wires for any lock.

I don't know what the wires in your tool are made of but I have a couple of "handheld" wires for lever locks and I used bike spokes to make them (realy strong, hard to bend): https://www.dropbox.com/s/anlnfxp56iwiyca/2013-01-27%2013.02.10.jpg

I may not have really understand your question, so if I didn't, please let me know :D

Be safe!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Pull the tool out so that it is on the "wrong" gauge, this will give you more room.
There isn't a lot of room with the MG but there is enough, come to the show at Nottingham and the guy who sold you the pick will demo it again.
