Chubb 3J60 Horizontal Mortice Lock

I have some questions about this lock. Maybe someone here knows:

Does anyone know if this is available in finishes other than silver?
Does it meet the latest British Standard with the 20mm bolt throw?
Also, does anyone know of any other good horizontal mortice lock? I would want it to have a box keep at least.

Definately not BS - it's basically a 3G110 rejigged to a horizontal format, so it has the normal 15mm bolt throw. It's a lovely lock, but very pricey. I don't know about the finish options.

Why do you want a horizontal lock specifically?

Just for aesthetics.

I know you could use a knobset and a separate deadlock, but I think a horizontal mortice lock looks better.

Well, depending on your needs you could use a conventional 3-lever horizontal sash lock and a separate BS deadlock either high or lower on the door, or a cylinder sashlock and keyed alike BS cylinder deadlock.

I don't think there is B.S horizontal lock on the market.

The British standard BS3621 was revised to provide a longer bolt because of the increase in more flexible doorframes. If your doorway has no glass/plastic panels either side, nor is a wooden house, but is set directly into a brick/stone opening, the older throw of 15mm will be satisfactory.

On colour, as a mortice lock, this will not be seen when fitted.
Chubb Custodial also make a horizontal 2-bolt mortice lock.
As horizontal locks are uncommon now, they are relatively expensive compared with upright ones. So are doors with stiles wide enough to accommodate such locks.

Stile width is a now issue - horizontal locks were designed to be fitted where the rail meets the stile on the door,thus providing extra room for a lock to be fitted. Of course, doing this totally removes the tenon from the joint, and compromises the structure of the door, but hey ho....

As for the throw of 15mm, I agree, but your opinion and mine are of rather less importance than the opinion of the OP's insurers!
