The cogwheel looks interesting, but how exactly does it make picking harder? I can see that it can be a passive security device (stopping unothorised keys from entering) but could you explain how it hinders picking?

No, unfortunately it is not my site.
It's the site of a german lockpicker. And yeah there are nice photos.

Correct, it's against unauthorised key copies.
But it also restriction the keyway and so there is less space to pick.
