Evva Modular screws

Postby l0ckcr4ck3r » 15 Aug 2013 1:32

I know dicey put a video out about this but has anyone figured the style and size of the scew Evva use on their modular Euro Cylinders?

Just from looking at it, im sure its a Security Torx Plus bit, Wiha call it the IPR format

http://www.wihatools.com/700seri/716_ipr_serie.htm

I dont wanna spend 50 bucks for the whole set, just hoped someone else has got one and can let me know so i can buy just the right sized bit.

thanks

If it's a security TORX, and you don't mind damaging the screw (or intend on replacing it with normal screws afterwards) you can use the same size TORX bit and give it a knock with a hammer - the security pin will flatten sufficiently to open the screw.

If you're worried about damaging the screw driver, I've found the cheap Husky multi-head TORX bit sets from Sears to be cheap and pretty resilient (T-4 to T-15). Once you've identified the right bit you can order the corresponding security bit.

The picture you linked to is a Torx Plus set. It had 5 points. Torx, and security torx has six points.

Have also used a small punch to knock out the post from the middle of the security torx screws and bolts, making them into normal torx.

Have seen an EVVA with more than one size torx screw on the same lock. Take a picture of the screw with a millimeter ruler diagonally across the screw, and will see if I can figure out the size.

Thanks Gordon for the info... I havent got the lock in my hot little hands yet but waiting for a nice new Evva to arrive from Germany :D Ill photograph it when it arrives. You know how it is... cant wait to get the package open just so you can start taking it apart!!

Im not sure if you know all the different Torx stuff, it seems a minefield to me with different manufactures referring to it differently.

I get the original Torx (6 point), Securty Torx ( 6point with a center stud) and "Anti' Tamper Torx" (5 points with stud)

Then they came out with "Torx Plus" which kinda changed the shape of the lobes to give more grip for the 6 point flavor. I just cant see any difference between the Torx and Torx Plus shapes in the 5 point style!!??

Oh well, maybe someone else will figure it out before they arrive :)

@Dogrocket Thanks for the sugestion but I shouldnt be so fussy, i like keeping things original. Its gunna drive me up the wall if i dont have the right tools in front of me.

For those who may still be wondering... The correct Torx bit for these EVVA locks is a Security Torx Plus. It is a 5 sided star bit with a hole in the middle. The ones I purchased are made by VIM Tools. The specific socket is part # V5PSD15. The kit is part number # V5PSD, 5 point security driver set.

Big thanks to Gordon for figuring out the size of the security bit, but just as an update... if any of you would prefer a standard 1/4" hex drive bit for the Evva modular system, then this is the one i bought. $6 from amazon including the shipping.

Eagles Eyes on the MCS @ ARF-GEF!!!

If anyone in the US is after one of these for their collection, i can recommend this company in Germany.

yeah the shipping is steep but they then knock off the tax because its being sold outside the EU!! Works out about 35% less than the store in DC, which is the only place i found this side of the atlantic that sold them. The down side is the wait... 2-3 weeks to get it made at the factory and then 2-3 weeks to ship. I think it spent some time at customs though
