Can you lock and then unlock Securreme lockpic?

Postby resertedlab » 10 Oct 2016 21:04

I am not sure if this is the place i need to ask my question, but here it is, sorry if its the wrong place and for my not that good english. I belive someone intruded my home while i was on vacantion. I live in apartment (I am from Europe), and since the building is new i only have one neighbouring family on my floor but they were gone as well. Can someone with good skills unlock the door and than lock it again the way it was. I know thiefs normaly wont do that but i have something on my mind so i need to know if this is possible (i found important documents not exactly the place i belive i left them and also my laptop was strangely moved asaide from its normal position. I use Securreme lock, i dont know to spell the type of lock in eglish but i will try to attach a photo from a similar lock in the internet..
I couldnt find a way to attach a photo, but here is a video of a similar lock in youtube. Thanks in advance

[EDIT: Moved from Lock Picks to European Locks area]

As you can see with the special self impressioning tool in the video someone can open your model lock easily and then they can close the door easily.

You should buy a floor safe and attach it to closet floor with screws to protect documents and electronics and buy DLink DCS-934L CCTV internet webcam with motion detection email alert so if someone visits your apartment again, you will have email alert of intruder.

Squelchie's is good advice.

Since you are in Europe safes in your home country will in all likelihood rated. They help you differentiate between various levels of safety offered. EN 1143-1 standard is pretty solid guide, many countries have their own levels on top of that, but it's a good standardised system. They also rate safe locks (EN 1300). So while it's good to have expert advice the EN 1143-1 will help you a lot.
(In the EU safes are rated from EU00 to EU VII. (Vaults to EU XII.) )

Don't buy unrated safes no matter what they promise, how cheap and fancy looking they are. They are just plain bad (usually downright useless, sometimes not even keeping kids out).
To infinity... and beyond!

Okey friends i am buying a Dlink camera very soon, probably safe as well. I read about Securreme claiming to be lockpick/bumping resistant but obviously its false statement :) Thanks again

Magic keys don't really fall into either of those categories, so it's at least somewhat true.

To answer your question bluntly absolutely yes somebody can close the lock after picking it up with little to no evidence. However there is a field of locksmithing called forensic locksmithing which goes into detail on how to tell if your lock has been picked by the microscopic scratch marks that eight metal pick leaves in the soft brass key pins as well as any scratches that may have been left in the keyway . I hope this helps and I would recommend looking into forensic lock picking or smithing to help answer your questions

if you had a new lock or pictures of an unmarked lever pack you could probably compare them with a good magnify glass and identify this yourself
