Rim Cylinder For Thin Door

I have a customer with a house that's grade 2 listed, with a couple of incredibly thin doors at 22mm.

We require an auto deadlocking rim latch, but all the ones I've seen will have a cylinder body that's too long. There is an old nightlatch on one of the doors at present. I haven't taken it apart as yet but the cylinder body must be smaller than normal so they must be available somewhere, or used to be...

Anyone any idea's? Ta.

Just make a spacer ring, I used to turn them on the lathe in these situations. An alternative is to use a packer for the lock on the inside of the door. Another thing to consider is the length of the fixing screws and how strong the installation will be with such a thin door.

Thanks Paul. I know what you're saying reference lock effectiveness on such a thin door, but the insurance company requires either an auto deadlocking rim latch or 5 lever mortice lock (non-BS), and if that's what the insurance company wants...

I've told the customer that when the work's complete to make sure he gets an insurance assessor out to OK the security, so if there are any problems with the effectiveness of the locks on these thin doors we'll know.

The idea of a spacer ring is obvious really, and a good one.

I've seen this on some doors and had to do it myself a few times.

For a rim cylinder spacer cut out a square of wood about 45mm then
put a hole in the middle for the cylinder and/or cut a piece the same
size as the nightlatch for it to sit on. Yale No.1 & 2s work well but if using
a nightlatch spacer make sure there is something other than thin air to
screw the strike plate to. Also consider fitting a rim fixing box for a
3G114....if there is anywhere to put the keep.
