multipoint Lock

Postby bobc » 23 Aug 2006 8:18

There has been some discussion about damage to multilocks on UPVC doors so just thought I would share some photos of one I had to replace recently. This had been badly fitted and the customer had been forcing the lock for over a year and obviously waited until the lock failed before taking any action.
Photos below I HOPE !!

Collapsed followers seem quite common, anyone else find this ?
If you keep spares some can be replaced.

I find this is the usual way that Mila MPL's break, they need to be kept in correct alignment or that is the result.

NHUGHZ

Sorry I missed your question.

Most MPL manufacturers do not provide component spares but for that model of Mila PZ 92mm you can get replacement gearboxes.

Yep - common problem with the Multipoints around here also. I tend to have a few overnight locks on the van, so if it can't be repaired or replaced the same day, I can get the door secured until a replacement is found.

I too now carry overnight locks and use these instead of sash jammers.

Its basically a cut down version of a multipoint lock I suppose you could say a euro case that can be installed in a UPVC door as a tempory measure until a replace unit can be order for the customer.
With so many different types of multipoint lock it is impossible to carry everyone in use. However there is a company that makes a universal lock that supposely fits most doors can't comment on the quality of this lock as I have never used it.

I guess the guys are referring to emergency multipoint locks - i know ERA for one do them. They are designed to slip into the channels of most existing mpl's and provide usually a deadbolt, and maybe two rollers, and they operate with the existing cylinder so at least the customer can lock the door.

If you have a decent condition s/hand Fuhr for example (the 4 roller version that used to come in three parts) then the centre section would do (if it fits) - at least overnight until you could fit a replacement lock.

regards

all depends on the depth and lenght of the backset!

but it's always worth saving any s/h working parts for pvc doors
strike plates/shoot bolt keeps tec.

you never know
